DanubeSediment - Iron Gate – Hotspot for Three DTP Projects
11-06-2018
Iron Gate is not only the largest site for hydropower production on the Danube River – due to its unique location amongst steep gorges, it holds high value for many different stakeholders: navigation and sediment transport must be managed and the connection of the National Park ecosystem to other parks and protected areas along the Danube River requires transboundary cooperation.
For that reason, DanubeSediment project partners met up with their peers from related DTP projects, DANUBE STREAM and DANUBEparksCONNECTED at the second cross-sectoral conference focused on “Nature Conservation and Navigation Alongside the Danube River” in Kladovo on May 29th and 30th 2018. The project DANUBE STREAM works on smart waterway management, while DANUBEparksCONNECTED works on the development of a Danube Habitat Corridor.
In a first step towards cooperation, the two day workshop aimed at finding and elaborating common work topics and interfaces. In a second step, the projects will discuss their results to make sure that the recommendations made for decision-makers and other stakeholders are compatible. The format of this meeting was deemed as very productive by all project teams and will be continued in the following reporting periods.
