If you're on the hunt for something new and interesting to read related to the Danube Basin, including updates on JOINTISZA activities, here are some good recommendations:
The Hungarian Journal of Hydrology, a journal of the Hungarian Hydrological Society, published a special issue on flood protection and water management in the Danube Region. It was released in October 2017 in collaboration with EUSDR PA4 and PA5. The issue looks at transnational efforts in the Danube River basin and contains an overview of ongoing projects and future challenges in managing water quality. An article on the JOINTISZA project (HU ISSN 0018-1323, Vol. 97, No. 3, pp. 37-41) gives insights into international cooperation in the Tisza River basin, describes the objectives of the project, outlines the composition of the project consortium and target groups, and points to project links between the EU Strategy for the Danube Region and other Interreg projects.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, published a status report on the Danube countries and the EU Strategy for the Danube Region to coincide with the 6th Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region. The forum, entitled “A secure, connected and prospering Danube Region”, covered topics in which regional cooperation is of strategic importance, such as energy security, transport infrastructure development and environmentally friendly transportation. The JOINTISZA project is covered in the section on ‘Success stories and promising areas of cooperation’ (pp. 46-47) with a brief overview of project aspects, goals and expected outputs.
Danube Watch is the magazine of the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR). Issue No. 2/2017, covered the highlights of Danube Day 2017, the motto of which was “Get active for a cleaner Danube”. In this issue of Danube Watch (p. 13), the Tisza mayfly was the emblem of the JOINTISZA project. The Tisza mayfly is an aquatic insect sensitive to pollution, and as such is an indicator of the water quality of the Tisza River.
The Danube Region Strategy newsletter [Hungarian language only] is issued under the umbrella of the Hungarian Presidency of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region with the main aims of providing information on the priorities of the Hungarian presidency and presenting the macro-regional strategies of the EU and the projects within the Danube Basin involving Hungarian partners. The current issue (2017/2) presents the topics of the 6th EUSDR Annual Forum and gives an overarching and interactive picture of the priority areas coordinated by Hungary. The issue also features a short article on the string of JOINTISZA events organised in June 2017, Szolnok, Hungary.
