Conference in Linz, Austria – further steps in implementing the program

The meeting in Linz, Austria was held in May 2017 and it was mainly aimed at discussing previous practices, as well as certain challenges that may be encountered when opening a community garden.

Regarding the example of previous practices, Dr. Carolin Mees, Architect, Journalist and Scientist, realised a presentation about the community gardens in New York, which are built in neighbourhoods with low income. The presentation was focused on showing the challenges that the community gardens in New York faced, along with the solutions that were found, which may serve in the future as an example for such projects in Europe.

Also, the meeting in Austria included a workshop, during which brought into attention practical aspects regarding the opening of community gardens in Europe. The organizers presented a series of detailed instructions and recommendations that should lead to the opening of the community gardens, such as the fact that the groups of people in these community gardens should be accompanied by neutral organisation - like NGO,  skilled persons should be combined less- skilled ones, language problems should be solved by an interpreter and also exchange between gardeners sharing a community garden is meaningful.
