ATTRACTIVE DANUBE - Project ATTRACTIVE DANUBE met in Belgrade

30-06-2017

The ATTRACTIVE DANUBE project finished its first period of implementation via a Steering Committee meeting held from 21st to 22nd June in Belgrade. This meeting was hosted by the Institute of Architecture, Urban & Spatial Planning of Serbia (IAUS).

Panorama of Belgrade

The meeting served not only as an overview of ongoing activities of each work package, but also as a platform where the project partners had a possibility to share their experiences, views and best practices from the first round of national workshops for establishment of national and common attractiveness monitoring platforms. Each of the meeting days spent about three hours discussing the active participation of stakeholders, new attractiveness indicators suggested and approaches used to attract relevant groups of experts or citizens etc. All these ideas will be worked out and developed during the summer months in order to prepare the best starting point for the second round of national workshops. The second round of national workshops will be held in each country in September/October. (For an overview of previous workshops see our newsletter, for upcoming workshops follow our website or facebook/twitter).

Since the attractiveness of a Danube territory is a key word for this project, every project meeting is followed by a study visit of an interesting site belonging to a particular city. For Belgrade these days the site would be the area of the river Sava waterfront. Therefore, the project partners had a unique opportunity to visit the Waterfront exhibition on 23rd June, an exhibition of the biggest development project of today’s Europe, attracting the attention of not only urbanistic experts, but also the citizens of Belgrade. Belgrade waterfront is probably the most controversial project in Serbia scoring the same number of positive and negative reactions.
