CD SKILLS - LECTURE ON CELIAC DISEASE FOR PAEDIATRIC POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS

On 26th October, 2021, Zrinjka Mišak from PP05-CHZ, held a lecture on celiac disease for students of Postgraduate Study „Pediatrics“at the University of Zagreb, School of Medicine. The lecture was held on-site at the University Hospital Zagreb.

Some basic information on celiac disease, data on epidemiology, etiology and clinical presentation were presented. Special emphasis was given on diagnostic algorithm in children, treatment and the importance of life-long strict gluten-free diet. Before the presentation a short test was performed, and attendees were asked to answer four questions on typical celiac disease cases (what should be done if child has no symptoms but has a positive family history, if child has Down syndrome, if child has highly positive anti tTG, if child has abdominal pain ...). None of the students answered all questions correctly, 60% had 3 correct answers, 30% had 2 correct answers and 10% had one correct answer). After the presentation all students knew the correct answers.

Twelve postgraduate students (11 pediatric residents and one pediatric dermatologist) attended the lecture. In addition, 8 more postgraduate students attended the lecture on-line.

Also, CD SKILLS project was presented and promoted, particularly e-learning tools (implemented within Focus IN CD and further developed in CD SKILLS) and CD SKILLS information exchange platform for health care professionals. Presentation was accepted with great interest. Some CD SKILLS publications – “Brochure for health care professionals” were distributed (can be found in our Library.
