CD SKILLS - Leaflet on screening for celiac disease in first - degree relatives of patients with celiac disease

05-12-2020

According to the current guidelines for diagnosing celiac disease in children, it is suggested to do the screening for celiac disease in first-degree relatives.

Childrens hospital Zagreb performed the analysis in their centre and it showed that the proportion of families who carry out the screening is low (data will be published). Some of the reasons for not performing it were that parents and/or primary physicians did not find it important or thought of it as unnecessary.

Therefore, with the aim to raise the awareness and to increase the number of families who will perform the screening for celiac disease in first-degree relatives we created a leaflet for patients and parents and for primary care physicians. The leaflet contains basic information on celiac disease, the importance of recognizing and diagnosing the disease and the information on what tests to perform and where.
