GRENDEL - 40th Duisburg Colloquium on Ship Technology and Ocean Engineering - Ships and Emissions

13-11-2019

Regulations on ship emission limits as well as recurrent media reports on the pollution of oceans and inland waterways exert pressure on the maritime sector to significantly reduce the emissions of new and existing ships. At the same time, the availability of improved conventional as well as alternative propulsion technologies and energy sources increases.

What is the state of the art in science and technology with regard to the reduction of ship emissions? What are the requirements of stakeholders including owner operators in inland navigation? Which infrastructure is needed for the extensive use of alternative propulsion systems and fuels? What are the implications for the training of ship masters? How can new concepts for ships help to reduce emissions?

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Duisburg Colloquium on Ship Technology and Ocean Engineering (04-05.11.2019, Duisburg), the topic area ship emissions was examined and discussed.
