The City of Sombor is located in the north-west part of the Republic of Serbia, with the area of 1,216 square kilometers. By the census from 2011, the City of Sombor has population of 85.903 people living in the city itself, 16 villages and 14 suburban areas. The City of Sombor is at the same time administrative center of Westbacka country.

Sombor has good geographical position since it has direct borders with two members of the European Union – Hungary and Croatia. Also, UNESCO recognized Special Nature Reserve „Bačko Podunavlje“ streches across the western part of the city. All of this, together with close proximity of major european river, road and rail corridors creates great investment potencial in infrastructure, industry, agriculture and tourism.

The City of Sombor is the city of great cultural and educational heritage. During the 19th century Sombor got its most influentical and renowed cultural institutions such as National Theater, Library, Archieves. Great number of cultural events which celebrates multiculturalism and multiconfesionalism of the city are present more than one century and many more are being created recently to preserve and promote cultural heritage, especcialy old crafts, publishing and music.
