Amazon of Europe Bike Trail - Meet the Project Partners - Westpannon (Hungary)

04-03-2019

The mission of West Pannon Regional and Economic Development Non-profit Ltd. is to support the initiation and implementation of cooperation-based regional and economic development processes in the West Transdanubian Region. Its aim is to strengthen networking among the region’s municipalities, enterprises and NGOs at small-regional, county and regional levels, increasing the efficiency of development programs and improving the effectiveness of the usage of funds for the 2014-2020 period. Among our highest priorities is establishing the system for high-quality professional service activities based on the harmonisation of the aspects and methodologies of territorial and rural development. We have 30 colleagues working in the offices in Szombathely and Győr.

In order to achieve above goals, the organization is active in six main areas:

- economic development, clusters,

- rural development, culture,

- regional planning, programming,

- sustainable tourism and transport,

- cross-border projects.

- international projects.

Besides Amazon of Europe Bike Trail, Westpannon is also involved in Danube Transnational Programme as partners in projects LENA and Transdanube.Pearls. Regarding the AoE Bike Trail, we are responsible for leading the Implementation of Amazon of Europe Bike Trail (WP5), as well as being a regional coordinator in the project, responsible for activities in Zala County.

West Pannon has been involved in development of transnational cycling routes since 2012 and is a regional coordinator of EuroVelo related developments and other sustainable mobility issues. In project Iron Curtain Trail we acted as lead partners and coordinated the process of defining the itinerary of the southern section of EV13 with 15 partners, based on a common methodology and designed a communication strategy for the route. West Pannon completed another COSME project for EV13’s signposted northern part including development of an app with reward system and promotional activities for the route.

Because of our past experiences, West Pannon will be able to help local communities and NGOs to improve their capability of making economic use of their natural and cultural values in a sustainable way. Cycling is a key and growing tourism sector in the area that is also compatible with the high share of sensitive areas in the border areas along the Mura and Drava.
