DARLINGe - Focus on geothermal energy in Hungary

20-03-2018

An extension of the SzentlĹ‘rinc geothermal system - one of the case studies of best practices in the DARLINGe project area -  is planned in the near future. The town is to build a new swimming pool and the residual heat of the Geothermal Heat plant is to be used for heating the premises. At this stage Town Hall meetings and discussions and pre-planning is ongoing about the location of the planned Facility.

Besides the use of geothermal energy for efficient heating and possible in cascade systems (which is one of the objectives of DARLINGe project), the great geothermal potential of Hungary is suitable for electricity generation too. In Pest County, northeast of Budapest, at Tura, the first combined geothermal heat and power plant in Hungary, based on Icelandic technology, with 7 MWth heating and 3 MW power capacity is currently at the commissioning phase, with the official start of operation planned for November.
