YOUMIG - PROJECT TAKES PART IN EUROPEAN WEEK OF REGIONS AND CITIES IN BRUSSELS

18-10-2017

YOUMIG was invited to be one of the two projects of the Danube Transnational Programme participating at the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels on October 9-12.

During the meetings and workshops held at the conference centre Borschette, project representatives discussed aspects of public administration challenges with their geographical and transnational dimensions, and exchanged views on how institutions and regions can be brought closer together, among other topics.

Addressing a workshop on October 10, YOUMIG deputy project manager Béla Soltész outlined the project’s work method and goals regarding capacity building in local administration, as an example of “a DTP-Interreg approach”. He highlighted that statistical offices, research institutes and municipal staff working together for one project aim has posed an opportunity for adopting a multi-angled vision for YOUMIG. Bringing the various angles together is helping YOUMIG in its effort to see the management of youth migration in a complex light, as well as the aim of stitching up data gaps on youth migration, which will ultimately enrich the evidence base that decision-makers can rely on.

‘Better institutions for more resilient regions and cities’ – workshop October 10, 2017, Brussels

After Mr Soltész’s presentation, Dragana Lukić-Bošnjak, from the YOUMIG partner Municipality of Kanjiža, Serbia, reviewed these issues from the local government’s point of view and offered some details on activities YOUMIG is doing in Kanjiža (as well as in six other municipalities across the Danube region). These include preparing a comprehensive local analysis for each city’s migration scenario, developing indicators for measuring youth migration, and helping to design local governance tools and a path to local strategy.
