Danube S3 Cluster project - Transnational Cluster Cooperation active on Agro – food, based on Smart Specialization Approach in Danube region is co-funded by the European Union Funds (ERDF, IPA, ENI) under the second call for proposals INTERREG Danube Transnational Programme 2014-2020.
The project aims to leverage the innovation-driven entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Danube area by developing smart and coordinated cluster policies in the context of RIS3, to enhance innovation management knowledge and skills and foster transnational cluster cooperation in Agro-Food sector.

1st Entrepreneurial focus group - Business Models that Work in Circular Economy

|
Danube S3 Cluster project partners had triggered the process of entrepreneurial discovery by organizing the 1st Entrepreneurial Discovery Focus Group on Business Models that Work in Circular Economy sectoral theme. The event, organized by NERDA, took place in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina on March 12th, 2019 and gathered 40 participants from the Quadruple Helix (entrepreneurs, academia and research, public sector and civil society) from all partner regions along the Danube together with local relevant actors.

Danube S3 Cluster - 2nd Steering CommiTTEE Meeting in Maribor, Slovenia
|

|
|
The 2nd Steering Committee meeting of Danube S3 Cluster project was held on April 11 - 12, 2019, in Maribor, Slovenia. Partners discussed the main activities conducted so far and planned the future events of the project, namely the 1st Year Review and the 2nd Entrepreneurial Discovery Focus Groups on Healthy Food. These events will be organised by the Lead Partner, South Muntenia Regional Development Agency, in Bucharest, Romania, on June 25th - 26th, 2019, back to back with the Annual EUSDR Forum that will take place on June 27th – 28th, 2019 in Bucharest at Parliament Palace.

DANUBE S3 CLUSTER PROJECT, PRESENT AT THE SMART AGRI HUBS AND THE IOF2020 CONFERENCE

|
Danube S3 Cluster partner, ITC Murska Sobota, representing also Digital Innovation Hub AGRIFOOD (DIH AGRIFOOD), participated in the SmartAgriHubs and the IoF2020 conference that was held in Prague, this March. Danube S3 Cluster project was presented as initiative that would impact the work of the SEE Regional cluster at the cross-fertilization level. ITC as DIH AGRIFOOD and partner in the Danube S3 Cluster project are namely providing the important connection between activities of the S3 cluster project and activities of these two projects.

The final event of the INTERREG Danube Transnational Programme project Made in Danube will take place on Monday 3 June 2019 at the Hospitalhof in Stuttgart, Germany (www.hospitalhof.de/) starting at 12:00. The event will conclude 2,5 years of work for the multidisciplinary consortium. The project aims to support the transnational innovation and knowledge transfer in the area of bio-economy focusing on smart agriculture, forestry and biofuels. The event will gather bio-economy communities and other stakeholders interested in the uptake of innovation tools in the field of biofuels, forestry and smart agriculture, as well as national and international policymakers. Workshops on the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy - ZAGREB
|

|
|
The Paying Agency, the Croatian Ministry of Agriculture, Joint Research Center (JRC) and the European Commission's Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development, organized in Zagreb workshops related to the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union and the introduction of Monitoring. Given that the main priorities of the new programming period are the modernization and simplification of agricultural policy, its legal frameworks and work tools, all Member States are expected to make a clear Strategic Plan on that path. The focus will therefore be on the changes that Croatia intends to introduce in order to make agriculture easier and more accessible.

workshop “Advancing the Creation of Regional Bioeconomy Clusters in Europe”, March 14th 2019, Brussels

The Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU) together with the SCAR Bioeconomy Strategic Working Group organized the joint workshop in Brussels. The objective of the event was to identify best practices for the creation of regional clusters in the bioeconomy sector and to stimulate interest in creating regional bioeconomy clusters in regions and countries less active in the bioeconomy sector via an exchange of knowledge and experiences in developing such clusters. Representative of project partner Bioeconomy Cluster, Katarína Blicklingová, was involved in the panel discussion related to clusters, which are of a more recent start and provided recommendations and experiences on a number of cluster related issues.

Workshop for national farmers, organized by „ProEntranse” and Moldovan Technology Transfer Network
|

|
|
The event, held on February 28th, 2019, aimed identifying the constraints and the limitation-difficulties around collective processes for agroecology which farmers from Republic of Moldova are facing.The participants were small farmers who are working in different areas of agriculture. Most of the participants argued that collective activities would be an asset for them but are faced with various challenges during the process of creating or joining a group, association or cluster. The Danube S3 Cluster project partner, MTTN, presented the project and explained how participants can work together to develop smart and coordinated cluster policies and to enhance innovation management knowledge and skills and foster transnational cluster cooperation in Agro-Food sector.

CROATIA - THE GREEN WEEK PARTNER COUNTRY IN BERLIN IN 2020
|
|
Croatia is a partner country of the International Green Week in Berlin in 2020, during the presidency of the European Council. The partnership agreement on this project was signed by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia and Agriculture Minister Tomislav Tolušić and General Manager of the Berlin Exhibition Christian Göke. Croatia, the youngest member of the European Union, has been present at the Fair since 1993, because the Fair for Croatia and Croatian producers is an extremely important place for presenting their production, but also for establishing new partnerships, informing about technological achievements and the place where new ideas are born. The Green Week 2020 will be held from 17 to 26 January 2020 at the Berlin Fair.

More than 100 participants in cross border cooperation event on “food of tomorrow” on sugar
|
|
BioLAGO e.V., Steinbeis 2i GmbH, Food Industry Competence Network and the “bioactive plant foods” network organized the 8th citizen and expert forum in Konstanz, which focused this year on sugar consumption and its consequences. The renowned citizen and expert forum “food of tomorrow” (Lebensmittel von morgen) took place in the frame of the fair Gesundheitstage Bodensee (Health days Bodensee) in Konstanz. More than 100 people attended the fair, eager to learn more about the topic "Sugar – a big misunderstanding“.

"Circular Economy - where each player wins” event, held in Hungary
|
|
In Hungary, circular economy (CE) concept is getting more to the centre of attention. The Hungarian Circular Economy Platform was established last year with cooperation of many involved companies, other stakeholders who have already recognized the opportunity to achieve resource efficiency and cost reduction within their processes, being also advantageous for the environment. Therefore and to further promote the concept of circular economy amongst the business sector, IFKA Public Benefit Non-profit Ltd. for the Development of Industry and Herman Ottó Institute Non-profit Ltd. organized "Circular Economy - where each player wins” conference on 29th March in Hungary. The event was financed by TRIS – Transition Regions Towards Industrial Symbiosis - Interreg Europe project also aiming to promote circular economy business models.
