D-STIR Danube Framework for Responsible Research and Innovation using Socio-Technical Integration

STIR Activities

This section will update interested public, visitors of our website, stakeholders and relevant media about STIR method and STIR activities, Pilot Actions in D-STIR Project and our fieldwork. Pilot Actions in the next few monhs will be divided into Pilot Action in Academic Environment in Romania, Hungary and Czech Republic, where Pilot actions in Business Environemnt will be performed in Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Germany, Czech Republic, Croatia and Bosnia and Hercegovina. This feeds into the final Danube RRI Strategy and it is designed to achieve:

  • application of the D-STIR method in the pilot sites, thus helping to define a set of RRI Actions
  • to test a selection of RRI actions in pilot organisations
  • to analyse opportunities to leverage funding for long-term funding of RRI Actions and D-STIR Method
  • to ensure cross-pilot monitoring of pilot progress and impact and ensure input to final RRI Strategy

The practical application of the D-STIR method has been started - this method is adjusted to the special features of the Danube region. The D-STIR is tested firstly at ELI-ALPS Research Center in Szeged (Hungary). The First Hungarian Responsible Innovation Association was the knowledge provider in the methodology development.

Petra Szűcs, Embeded Humanist for ELI-HU Research and Development Non-Profit Ltd from Hungary working with Szabolcs Tóth (early-stage researcher) in ELI-ALPS. ELI-ALPS is a brand new, worldwide unique research infrastructure.

Szabolcs TÓTH obtained his master’s degree at the University of Szeged (Hungary), Faculty of Science and Informatics in 2015. He started his scientific work in 2012 at the Department of Optics and Quantumelectronics in TeWaTi laboratory and later, in 2015, he joined ELI-ALPS where he works as an early stage researcher in the Laser Sources Division. His research field is nonlinear optics. His tasks are to operate the MID-IR and SYLOS laser systems and to design and develop optical parametric amplifiers.

Marija Plesec Pongrac, Embeded humanist for Development Agency Heart of Istria from Pazin, Croatia talking to Aleksandar Grah, director of the Company Multi - sport Ltd., a SME in which STIR method will be tested over a 12 week period. Multi - sport Ltd., from Pazin is a company that deals with the equipping of sports halls and outdoor sports fields. It offers services such as design, manufacture and installation of sports equipment.

Piloting of D-STIR method in SME's get started in the Czech Republic by Bohemian Innovation Centre. The INNOVATION PROCESS MANAGEMENT, how is the method called in the business environment, was first applied in Genrex Company, the private laboratory for genetic testing of animal diseases.

5. Romanian Embedded Humanist applying STIR method with IFIN HH & ELI – NP researchers

Horia Hulubei National Institute for R&D in Physics and Nuclear Engineering’s  (IFIN-HH) Embedded Humanist, Mrs. Mara Tanase is following STIR method while talking to Kyle Juedes, laser  physicist at Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics (ELI - NP). ELI-NP project is going to be the most advanced research facility in the world focusing on the study of photonuclear physics and its applications, comprising a very high intensity laser of two 10PW ultra-short pulse lasers and the most brilliant tuneable gamma-ray beam.

6. Application of the D-STIR method in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Belma Pašić, Embeded humanist of Sarajevo Economic Region Development Agency SERDA, Bosnia and Herzegovina, with Sarajevo Cantona Planning Institute,  talking about innovation - Personal portable electronic device for delivery of gentle prolonged Visible and Near Infrared (NIR) Light, for the purpose of improving the endocrine, regenerative and immune system.

7. STIR application in Germany from our partner bwcon GmbH

Sina Speer, Embedded Humanist for bwcon GmbH (Germany), is interviewing Alexandra Rudl, Head of bwcon Innovation Academy, applying the STIR methodology for business organizations. The method will be tested with bwcon GmbH during a 12-week lasting pilot actions between January and April 2018. bwcon GmbH is a service company supporting businesses and their innovation processes across the whole value chain. The bwcon Innovation Academy accompanies established organizations in finding new business areas and also supports their clients in creating an innovation-friendly culture.
