EcoVeloTour - Cross-sector co-operation in cross-border topics - Bulgaria is on the way of strategic planning

In Bulgaria, the EcoVeloTour project contributed to public planning process regarding a consultation for the Ministry of Regional development and public works regarding the new Cross-border cooperation program Romania-Bulgaria.

BAAT the Bulgarian partner of EcoVeloTour was invited to participate in consultations regarding the preparation of the new planning period of Cross-border cooperation program Romania-Bulgaria 2021-2027. A meeting was held with representatives of Interreg Unit, Territorial cooperation Directorate at the Ministry of regional development and public works.

Representatives from the ministry took advice by BAAT's project team regarding the idea for planning integrated measures to foster development of Danube cycling route in the cross-border area as a flagship project under the new program.

As a result of the meeting a recommendation for measures was sent to the ministry officials. The recommendations were also forwarded to municipalities at the Danube via roundmail by the National association of municipalities in Bulgaria, which supports the Ministry in the process. As a result the Municipality of Belene contacted the project team for more details on the topic.

“A cycle route is about to connect Vidin and Silistra along the Danube” – said Denitsa Nikolova, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works at a meeting of the National association of municipalities in Veliko Tarnovo.
